If it were being attainable to edit my earlier reply I'd personally alter the introduction from the “Oval P” stamp to study “not uncovered right up until 1910 or later.” So the 1913 day is an excellent in good shape.

Basically, by proofing and introducing the WP marking, along with an affidavit from Winchester certifying the process, they have been ready to stop getting the rifles proofed outside the US. When the choice was made to proof mark the .22’s for Australia it grew to become a universal necessity for the entire rimfire line. When you or any one else gets a chance you must critique the correspondence folder, although it does not pertain to your centerfire rifles which were previously being marked, it is rather attention-grabbing examining for that history from the .22 rimfire line.

For barrels & receivers designed right after 1905: Receivers getting the “WP” proof but no “WP” or “Oval P” proof within the barrel would reveal the barrel was changed outside of Winchester employing a pre-1905 barrel.
